🍽️ What I Ate
Despite the name, Cameron Highland Kopitiam has nothing to do with chilly mountains. Instead, it’s a beloved neighborhood eatery in Penang where locals gather for simple, delicious meals—especially during breakfast and lunch hours.
I stopped by one morning on a local friend’s recommendation and was rewarded with hearty dishes that hit all the right notes.
🪑 Simple, Clean & Friendly Vibes
The kopitiam has a clean layout with plastic tables and ceiling fans—very typical of Malaysian eateries. The staff were friendly and quick with service. It's a place where you eat well without fuss, and that’s exactly its charm.
There’s a mix of younger crowd and older regulars, a sign that the food speaks across generations.
Fish Bee Hoon Soup
Light, milky soup with a clean, flavorful fish broth. The bee hoon (rice vermicelli) soaked up the broth beautifully, and the fresh fish slices were tender and not fishy at all. Add a bit of chili padi and soy sauce for a kick—so comforting!
Char Kuey Teow
Another great version of Penang’s classic, served with just the right amount of char. This one had a stronger garlic punch and extra crunchy bean sprouts. Wok hei was solid!
Ah Bok Kueh
A traditional snack that’s soft, chewy, and subtly sweet. Made with rice flour, it’s not something you see everywhere—so I was glad to find it here. It pairs perfectly with kopi or teh.

💡 Insider Tips
Go early if you want the full selection of dishes—especially the fish soup and Ah Bok Kueh.
Most stalls operate independently within the kopitiam.
Cash is preferred, but some vendors may accept e-wallets.
Don’t be shy to share tables—it’s common and expected.
